One day I strung up my Dobro without the cover plate and noticed that it basically sounded the same. Has anyone experimented with making wooden cover plates. Also I would like to design my own metal cover plate. Are they cast?

Check out Forbidden Fruit Reso's website if he has one. He makes his usually out of wood. I think it's usually a lamination, but I could be wrong.

Carroll Benoit of Benoit Guitars built one just last year and it was really nice. It was posted w/ picture on Steel Guitar Forum under the "No Peddlers" pages.

Commercially produced metal coverplates are usually stamped out of sheet metal, Tomas. Castings would be too heavy.
